Ajna Jusić Participated in the First National Forum on the Right to Reparation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

ZDR

At the invitation of the Director General of the National Reparations Fund for Victims of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence and Other Crimes against the Peace and Security of Mankind (FONAREV), Ajna Jusić, President of the Association “Forgotten Children of War”, visited the Democratic Republic of the Congo from July 1 to 4, where she participated in the First National Forum on the Right to Reparation.

Jusić was invited as an expert in the field, and during her stay in the DRC and her participation in the Forum, she presented the experiences of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the area of integrated reparations for victims — experiences that may contribute to the validation of the national reparation strategy of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In addition to her active participation in the Forum’s working sessions, Jusić held several separate meetings with key officials.

“During my visit to the DRC, we held meetings with Pramila Patten, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, as well as with representatives of FONAREV. We discussed the launch of a joint initiative to develop a global protocol on the status and rights of children born of war around the world,” said Jusić.

FONAREV is a public institution established by Law No. 22/065 of December 26, 2022, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its mission is to provide fair and just reparations to victims of sexual violence in the context of armed conflict and other serious crimes against peace and humanity, dating back to 1993.

Notably, the invitation extended to Ajna Jusić was issued under the high patronage of His Excellency Mr. Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
