On 17 May 2026, the Association Forgotten Children of War organized a Living Library activity at the Ismet Mujezinović International Portrait Gallery in Tuzla.
The Living Library is a unique concept in which the “books” are real people who share their personal experiences and life stories. During the activity, participants had the opportunity to listen to testimonies from survivors of conflict-related sexual violence, children born as a consequence of war, and genocide survivors.
The activity was organized as part of a study visit that brought together 36 students from different cities across Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the visit, participants toured the Srebrenica Memorial Center, as well as the cities of Tuzla and Sarajevo, where they visited memorial sites, places of suffering, and institutions dedicated to preserving memory and promoting a culture of remembrance.
The study visit, within which the Living Library activity was held, represents the first of three planned study visits to be implemented throughout the project.
The Living Library activity and the study visit were organized within the project “Building Sustainable Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Investing in the Future”, jointly implemented by BIRN BiH, the Srebrenica Memorial Center, and the Association Forgotten Children of War, with the support of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Peacebuilding Fund (PBF).
