A representative of the Association “Forgotten Children of War”, Tarik Ekmeščić, participated in the roundtable titled “Spa and Climate Treatment and Medical Rehabilitation for Survivors of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina: Challenges and Recommendations”, held on April 27, 2026, in Sarajevo, organized by UN Women and the Association Viva žene, with the support of the Government of the United Kingdom.

The event brought together representatives of relevant institutions, international organizations, civil society organizations, and survivors’ associations with the aim of opening an expert dialogue on the challenges related to exercising the right to rehabilitation, spa treatment, and medical support for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Particular focus was placed on the implementation of the Law on the Protection of Civilian Victims of War in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as on the existing disparities in access to rights across cantons.

During the discussion, Tarik Ekmeščić, on behalf of the Association “Forgotten Children of War”, highlighted the challenges of inconsistent implementation of legal provisions and the lack of adequate monitoring mechanisms for enforcing the rights of civilian victims of war at the cantonal level. Particular emphasis was placed on the need for stronger institutional coordination and the establishment of functional mechanisms that would ensure consistent implementation of legal obligations and equal access to rights for all civilian victims of war throughout the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Through its participation in this event, the Association “Forgotten Children of War” continued its advocacy efforts aimed at improving the rights and position of children born as a consequence of conflict-related sexual violence, while actively contributing to broader processes of transitional justice, reparations, and strengthening institutional support for survivors. At the same time, the event provided an important platform for the exchange of experiences and the strengthening of cooperation with relevant domestic and international partners working in the fields of human rights protection and support for war survivors.
