Book Promotion of “I Am Alen” Held – An Evening of Truth, Courage, and Remembrance in Goražde

ZDR

On July 9, 2025, the book promotion of “I Am Alen”, an autobiographical work by Alen Muhić, member and activist of the Association Forgotten Children of War, was held at the Goražde Cultural Center. The evening was marked by powerful emotions, a silence that spoke louder than words, and the courage to speak about what had been left unspoken for far too long.

The book “I Am Alen” presents a deeply personal, painful, yet profoundly powerful story of growing up as a child born as a result of wartime sexual violence. It is a story of trauma, but also of resistance, of the search for identity and dignity within a society that often did not know, or did not want, to listen. Alen’s testimony transcends individual experience and becomes the voice of many whose lives have remained on the margins for years.

The promotion brought together a large number of citizens, representatives of institutions, media, partners, and friends of the Association, whose presence demonstrated solidarity and a willingness to listen. Throughout the evening, emotions alternated with moments of silence, and every spoken sentence carried the weight of truth.

The program was moderated by Elvira Aganović, while the book was discussed by:

  • Ajna Jusić, President of the Association Forgotten Children of War
  • Dr. Amra Delić, neuropsychiatrist and trauma expert
  • Prof. Senada Hurić Aleta

Their contributions opened space for a deeper understanding of the psychological and social consequences of wartime violence, as well as the importance of recognition, support, and the responsibility of the community toward children born of war.

The promotion of “I Am Alen” once again reaffirmed the mission of the Association Forgotten Children of War to speak the truth, to refuse the denial of pain, and to ensure that no child is left forgotten.

Because when Forgotten Children of War speak out, it is no longer only their story, but the responsibility of the entire society.
