Docu-dance-theater play IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER

A documentary-dance performance directed by Darrel Toulon, about children born of war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was shown at the Croatian National Theater Osijek, the City Theater Joza Ivakić Vinkovci and finally at the National Theater Tuzla.

In the name of the father is a transdisciplinary project or a combination of performance art, politically relevant theater and academic research. The project was developed in cooperation with the University of Birmingham (UK), the University of Leipzig (DE) and the Forgotten children of war Association (BiH), and it received support from the Austrian Cultural Forum Sarajevo and the European Union’s “Horizon 2020” research and innovation program, Marie Sklodowska-Curie.

The central part of the project is a documentary-dance-theatre production co-produced by the Tuzla National Theater (Bosnia) and the Alpha group (Austria). Among the cast is Ajna Jusić, president of the Forgotten Children of War Association, along with other children born of war, with the support of 7 actors from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Austrian musician Norbert Wally.

In this work, Darrel Toulon transforms the biographies, facts and traumatic life stories of these young people into dynamic visual images, for a non-fictional artistic presentation combined with heightened physical movement.

The play takes the audience on a journey deep into the world of children born of war and creates a space where audience and actors converse.

The theater presents itself as a forum for dialogue, togetherness and peace building, where citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina of all ages find their voice and break their walls of silence with empathy, respect and understanding for children born of war. Since its premiere in 2019, the play IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER has been performed in Tuzla, Živinice, Srebrenica and Sarajevo.
