Jusić spoke about justice and accountability for war survivors in New York

ZDR

In November 2021, the United Kingdom government took the first step toward creating an international platform to support tens of thousands of children who have been marginalized and stigmatized by their families and societies due to the circumstances of their conception.

This platform aims to address the challenges faced by children born as a result of war, categorize them based on priority needs, propose solutions, and establish a framework for their coordinated implementation.

The “Forgotten Children of War” Association has played an active role in developing this platform, contributing through participation in the Survivor Advisory Group. Recently, the Association’s president, Ajna Jusić, had the opportunity to attend a series of meetings in New York, including a key session of the High-Level International Alliance for the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI).

A major focus of this meeting was to provide a platform for survivors to voice their needs directly to top decision-makers. In her speech, Ajna Jusić addressed the critical issues of justice and accountability, stressing the importance of strengthening both national and international mechanisms – legal, formal, and judicial – to ensure more stringent measures for prosecuting sexual violence crimes in conflict.

Her remarks emphasized a survivor-centered approach to justice, which allows survivors to define what justice means for them, involves them in peace processes and transitional justice, and ensures that peace agreements do not grant impunity to perpetrators of sexual violence during wartime.
